About Newark Garden Club

A Group with a Common Passion

The Newark Garden Club was organized July 25, 1929, two years before the founding of the Ohio Association of Garden Clubs. Meetings were originally held in member’s homes. During that time, they would have formal teas or sit-down dinners with elegant table settings that would include designer floral arrangements.  All members were expected to wear nice dresses, white gloves, and hats. We are much more relaxed today – pretty much anything goes.

Our club is under the umbrella of OAGC. It is divided into 16 regions. Newark is part of Region 8. It is one of the largest regions, but has the fewest active clubs. The region elects a director every two years. Regional meetings are held twice a year on the date set by the OAGC board. These meetings are hosted by each club in turn.
